MR2 Spyder EB60 Axle Assembly guide

Assembled 2AR-FE swap axles

This guide goes over the steps required to assemble suitable axles for use in the MR2 Spyder with the 2AR-FE or 2GR-FE using the EB60 transmission.

Parts required

In order to assemble the axles needed for this swap you will need to purchase the following axles:
TrakMotive TO-8154
TrakMotive TO-8156
TrakMotive TO-8270

This solution is intended to attach to the motor using the manual transmission carrier bearing bracket from the 2010-2011 camry available here.

Note that while I do not sell the axles you need to start with, the amazon links are amazon affiliate links and if you purchase the parts through those links it will result in me receiving a small commission on the sale.

Step one,

Remove all three of the inner joint CV clamps and pull the joints apart as shown above. It seems that some of these joints are sometimes captured with peened over spots right at the end of the bearing races. You can flatten these out with a punch and a hammer. If you use a grinder make sure you clean out all the grinding dust.

Step two,

Reconfigure the axles in the following configuration:
Left axle: Center bar and outer section from TO-8156 combined with inner tulip from TO-8154
Right axle:
Center bar and outer section from TO-8154 combined with the long inner tulip from TO-8270

The two remaining axle components are of no use for this swap. I would suggest salvaging the boots as spares as well as the axle nut in case you ever need them in the future.

Step three,

Reinstall the inner boot clips on the newly assembled axles. Ensuring there’s enough CV grease in each tripod. Extra grease can added or you can simply salvage some of the grease from the 3rd axle to replace anything lost in the process.

That’s it! install the axles and enjoy the car!
